LITTLE BRITAIN, ON, July 16, 2019 – Dan Risebrough Barnes, founder and CEO of Ruralwave and Kawartha Cable, invited MPP Laurie Scott to discuss opportunities for High Speed Internet connectivity in underserviced areas within Durham Region and Kawartha Lakes. Following a Stakeholder Consultation held at South Lake Futures earlier this year with key business community stakeholders, Ruralwave and Kawartha Cable are working with all levels of government to address the gaps identified in the report titled “Connecting our Communities: A Broadband Strategy for Durham Region”, especially the rural areas.
Locally owned and operated, Ruralwave and Kawartha Cable provide high-speed connectivity using a variety of available technologies including Fibre to the Home, Fibre to the Curb, and Hybrid Fibre Coax. Together, they currently provide High Speed Internet with up to 250MB download speeds to Scugog Island, Caesarea, Manilla, Blackstock, Nestleton, Seagrave, Washburn Island, Little Britain and Oakwood. Ruralwave also provides Fixed Wireless coverage in Durham and Kawartha Lakes.
“We are constantly innovating new ways to bring more services to rural homes and we plan to work with Durham Region to target high needs areas. I am pleased that MPP Laurie Scott took time to meet with me to discuss how our solutions can meet the needs of Durham Region and Kawartha Lakes residents and business owners.” said Dan Risebrough Barnes.
In the last 2 years, Kawartha Cable has invested over $850,000 to bring Hybrid Fibre Cable and Fibre to the Home to customers in Caesarea, Blackstock, Nestleton and Manilla. They have hired 7 new staff members to keep up with the demand and their growth plan. Over $500,000 will be invested over the next year to bring Fiber Optic Cable to Scugog Point and Greenbank, creating jobs and meeting the needs of rural communities.
